This falls completely under the derp category. Seriously, hardcore.
I'm really sick of disney princessification btw. You know mulan? TOTALLY NOT A PRINCESS
Lets do a quick review. How do you become a princess? Answer. You can't.
Princess, a definition: A PRINCESS IS THE DAUGHTER OF A MARRIED KING AND QUEEN. *RAGE*
You must be born one. "Princess Diana" wasn't actually a princess, it was an honorary title.
Lets see...
Belle, commoner, hooks up with a pretty beastly beast
Cinderella, Commoner, finds prince charming at a dance, and ends up being stalked
Tiana, commoner, in a country which bans royalty from being official recognized
Mulan, commoner in a country that doesn't have princesses, let alone royalty passed down generations
Pocahontas is questionable due to culture
Aurora, actual princess
Ariel, actual princess
Jasmine, actual princess
Rapunzel, actual princess
Assuming we count Pocahontas as 1/2, that's 50%
Of course, we can push this to the princess side if we include Princess Kida, however she's not included in the commercial disney princess lineup, probably because she actually killed several people, sending them into fiery deaths. She was a badass. +Ashe Kolalis, that's a nod to you.
So all in all, what defines a disney princess? The answer is simple. Money.
Man, when I first read this, I misread "stalked" as "staked." Just imagine an alternate storyline where Cinderella is actually a vampire and the Prince has to go on this epic journey to stake her. I'd totally watch that.
ReplyDeleteIn other news. WHY DOES ALMOST NO ONE REMEMBER ATLANTIS? One of the best Disney movies evar! Joss Whedon helped with some of the writing for it! Come on guiz! D:
Seriously... atlantis was a badass movie
