Recently, I acquired starcraft II heart of the swarm as a birthday present (I'm old now, yay!)
If you intend on doing the same, I recommend checking out the the Tech Derp Game Shop, with coupon code DERP4U, to have it 2$ cheaper than Amazon. Blizzard charges more than amazon does.
I can't really give a multiplayer review as I haven't played it.
I was seriously impressed. It's an artistic masterpiece. Throughout the gameplay, I kept feeling really moved. The character development and attention to detail was fantastic. The cinematics were great. When I finished it, I was screaming (quietly, it was 4am) for more. I now emotionally emphasize with the zerg, when I used to think them mindless horrible creatures.
I WANT MORE DAG NAB IT.
So, I'm going to say upfront, I'm not really normally a zerg player. In SC1, they were my last race of choice, and in Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty, I found them awkward and ugly.
Heart of the swarm changed all that. The amount of flexibility they added was amazing.
The units are awesome. I was happy to see a lot of old favorites back into the single player.
As to the campaign, missions were compelling.
There were some odd evolutionary challenge missions that I didn't notice at first, that add unusual upgrades to your units. They were mutually exclusive upgrades, which made it so your decisions matter. You can actually have 2 significantly different play throughs of the same campaign because of different evolutionary changes.
All in all, I felt completely immersed, as if the story was real. Blizzard has a masterpiece in this one. I really loved this game. The epic is real.
Totally worth it.
The best part of the Evolution missions was the Baneling ones...simply because of one Marine comment:
ReplyDelete"This...just ain't fair!"
I rather liked that part. That was hilarious.
ReplyDeleteIt reminded me of a comment you hear in the background in this video.
